Jean Prentice of Carluke, Scotland
By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor
Spring 2000 and Revised: 17 Dec 2006

We are helping Mike Bleackley in tracing her Prentice roots. Here is what we have so far:

1. Jean Prentice was b. c. 1715 in Scotland.

She m. William Waddel/Waddell c. 1735-38. Known children:

  1. Agnes Waddel/Waddell, b. May 13, 1739 Carluke (Hindshlaw).
  2. Robert Waddel/Waddell, b. Feb. 27, 1743 Carluke (Hindshlaw)
  3. Marrion Waddel/Waddell, b. Sept. 11, 1745 Carluke (Hindshlaw)
  4. Jean Waddel/Waddell, b. Aug. 5, 1747 Carluke (Hyndshlaw)
Who are Jean Prentice's Parents?

We checked our Scotland database of christenings and marriages but did not find a record of Jean's marriage. We did find some likely possibilities as to who Jean's parents might be:

    1. Jean Prentice, daughter of Archibald Prentice of Carluke, was born 25 May 1707.

    2. Jean Prentice, daughter of James Prentice and Janet Stringend of Lanark, was born 30 Sep 1711.

    3. Jean Prentice, daughter of James Prentice and Isobell Forrester of Carstairs, was born 14 May 1717.

    4. Jean Prentice, daughter of John Prentice of Carluke (wife not given), was born 28 Aug 1720. She would be 19 at the birth of Jean's first child.
