Update of 18 Apr 2004: James A. Prentice is the son of Ira L. Prentice (b. c. 1830) who appears in the 1860 census in Becket, Berkshire Co., MA. Ira is a descendant of Valentine Prentice.

1. James A. Prentice was b. in Mar 1855 in MA.

James m. Fannie M., b. May 1858 in Granville, MI and d. Fri., 22 Dec 1939 in Toledo (per Toledo Blade obituary provided by "Bill in Toledo").

About 1886-1888 they moved from MA to Toledo, Lucas Co., OH where they appear in the 1900, 1910 and 1920 census.

Fannie was a life member of the Order of Eastern Star and a charter member and past worthy matron of Triune Chapter. She attended Westminster Presbyterian Church.

The body is in the Walter Funeral Home where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. tomorrow by Triune Chapter. The Rev. Henry McKenzie will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Pall-bearers will be Harry Rosecrans, Carl Kinker, D. T. Ness, John Meister, H. Rogers and R. J. McEwen. Children (per census records):

  1. Grace A. Prentice, b. Dec. 1882, MA. Living in Toledo in 1930 and 1939, unmarried.
  2. Beatrice Prentice, b. Apr 1885, MA. She may have m. Mr. Crandall and both may have been deceased by 1930. They might have been the parents of the children living with Fannie in the 1930 census (see below).
  3. Stanley G. Prentice, b. Nov 1888, OH. Living in Ashtabula, OH in 1939. He appears in the 1930 census in Franklin, Venango Co., PA, with his wife, Geneva, b. c. 1898, IN, and children:
    1. Kenneth Prentice, b. c. 1924, PA
    2. Doras/Doris Prentice, b. c. 1927, PA.
    3. James C. Prentice, b. c. 1929, PA.
  4. Marguerite Prentice, b. Jan 1891, OH

A check of the IGI does not show any entry for James.

Fannie's obituary relates that she and James had the following grandchildren in 1939:

  • William P. Prentice, b. c. 1915 and living with Fannie in 1930 census.
  • Ralph B. Crandell, Toledo, b. c. 1917 and living with Fannie in 1930 census.
  • Richard B. Crandell, Toledo, b. c. 1921 and living with Fannie in 1930 census.
  • Kenneth G. Prentice, Ashtabula. (See above)
  • Doris Jean Prentice, Ashtabula. (See above)
  • James C. Prentice, Ashtabula. (See above)
