Jabez Prentiss of NC

Update of 23 Mar 2000: By E-mail of 23 Mar 2000, Margie McGrew has provided us with new information establishing that Binney erred in identifying the family of Jabez Prentiss who is 206/78a in our PRENTICE book. The corrected family is set forth below:
Jabez Prentiss (206/78a) was b. c. 1780 and probably in CT. He was the son of Dr. Samuel and Lucretia. He probably died before 1820 as he does not appear with his family in the 1820 NC census.
Jabez m. Jane Barry, on 23 Jul 1803 in Craven Co., NC. She was b. 1785 in NC and d. in New Bern, NC in 1862. Children:
- Francis Jabez Prentice, b. c. 1800-1810. He married c. 1820-1830 and had:
- Fred Prentiss; died unmarried.
- Mathew Prentiss.
- Henrietta Prentiss, b. in 1809 in NC. She died in the Yellow Fever outbreak at the Siege of New Bern in 1864. She m. John Osgood on 14 Nov 1825 in Craven Co., NC. John died in 1872. The whole family is buried in New Bern. Children:
- (10 unidentified children)
- Frank Osgood. He was wounded at the battle of Willis Church, NC and died at the family plantation 2 months later, unmarried.
- Caroline Wallace Osgood m. Edmond Henderson. Daughter:
- Annie Henderson m. John Rothwell Turrentine. Daughter:
- Ann Prentice Turrentine.
- Mildred Turrentine m. John F. Franz. Daughter:
- Charlotte Franz m. (unknown)
- Margie (unknown) m. Larry McGrew.
- (dau.) Prentiss, b. c. 1810-1820. She m. Mr. Charlotte.
