1. Eldred H. Prentiss, b. Dec 1850 and d. after 1930, probably in Upton, Worcester Co., MA census where he was living with the family of his son, Leroy, at the time of the 1930 census. Eldred appears in the 1880, 1900, 1920 and 1930 Upton, Worcester Co., MA census with his wife and family.
He m. Lucy A. Childs b. Jun 1853. The IGI indicates they were married on 15 Jul 1870. Their children, as indicated by the 1880 census, were:
- George F. Prentiss, b. Sep 1871, MA. . . . . . . . . [2]
- Alice A. Prentiss, b. c. 1878, MA
- LeRoy W. Prentiss, b. Sep 1891, MA. . . . . . . . . [3]
There were quite likely additional children born to Eldred between 1880 and 1900, but we do not know what their names might be.
2. George F. Prentiss, b. Sep 1871, MA. He appears in the 1900 and 1920 Worcester Co. census with his wife, Mae/Mary B. Warren (dau. of Albert E. Warren), b. May 1874, MA, and their children:
- Mildred G. Prentiss, b. Dec 1892, MA
- Alice E. Prentiss, b. Mar 1898, MA.
- Albert E. Prentiss b. Jan 1900, MA. Not in 1920 or 1930 census. Not in SSDI.
- George E. Prentiss, b. 6 Jul 1903 and d. Dec 1978, Upton, Worcester Co. MA (per census and SSDI). At home, unmarried, in 1930 census.
3. LeRoy W. Prentiss, b. Sep 1891, MA. He appears in the 1900 and 1920 Worcester Co. census with his wife, Emma Aldrich, b. c. 1891, MA and their children:
- William A. Prentiss, b. c. 1913, MA. At home in 1930. Died bef. 1999 in Upton.
- Edward L. Prentiss, b. c. 1915, MA. At home in 1930. Died bef. 1999 in Upton.
- Beatrice L. Prentiss, b. c. 1918, Upton, MA and d. 26 Nov 1999 in St. Camillus Health Center Nursing
Home, Whitinsville section of Northbridge. She m. Frank Libbey who d. in 1958. Buried
in Lakeview Cemetery. Children:
- Frank Libbey of Sutton, MA
- William "Billy" Libbey of Seabrook, NH
- Sean Libbey (per email of 18 Feb 2002; upton197@hotmail.com)
- Brenda Libbey who m. Mr. Teachout of Upton.
- Robert J. Prentiss, b. c. 1927, Upton and living there in 1999 (per obit. of Beatrice).
Possibility 1: The 1930 census indicates both of Eldred's parents were born in MA. The 1850 Upton census does not show Eldred, but it does show a Samuel Prentiss, b. c. 1827, MA, as an employee in the bootmaking shop of John Miller. No wife or family is mentioned for Samuel, nor is marital status indicated in the 1850 census. Samuel may be #92ix, Samuel F. Prentice, b. 9 Feb 1826, Grafton, Worcester Co., MA, a descendant of Henry Prentice.
