Update of 21 Sep 2004: William Prentice is the son of James Prentice, b. 1820, and Eliza Jane Roberts, and grandson of William Prentis of Williamburg, VA.
The 1880 Giles County, TN census contains the following family:
- William Prentice, age 30 (b. c. 1850), b. AL.
- Rosa Prentice, age 23 (b. c. 1857), b. TN.
- Calvin Prentice, age 4 (b. c. 1876), TN.
- Wiley J. Prentice, age 2 (b. c. 1878), TN.
- Willis Prentice, age 10 mos.) b. c. 1879), TN
It is noteworthy that William was born in Alabama, not Tennessee, so reference should also be made to Alabama Prentices.
