    Hartford Courant, The (CT) - Tuesday, March 24, 2009: PRENTICE, Leslie W. Jr.

    Leslie W. Prentice Jr., 95, of East Windsor, husband of the late Ida (Swanson) Prentice, died Sunday (March 22, 2009) at Suffield House. &NDtab;Leslie was born in Windsor Locks and moved to Warehouse Point as a young child. He lived there for nearly ninety years most of that time in a house which he renovated as well as installing modern electrical service, plumbing and central heating.

    Leslie was one of the last living members of the Enfield High School Class of 1931. He was a member cross country and track teams and won the silver medal in the one-mile race in the State Championship held in New Haven n 1933. Leslie was an active member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and served on the Board of Trustees for over fifty years. Leslie worked as a millwright at Bigelow and Sanford, and as an aircraft parts inspector in the experimental department of Hamilton Standard. He retired from Hamilton standard in 1975.

    Leslie is survived by a son Leslie W. Prentice III and his wife Delight; two grandsons, Lee and his wife Judy and Eric and his wife Christine; a granddaughter Carolyn Bacon and her husband David; two great-granddaughters, Elizabeth and Margaret Prentice

    A funeral service will be held Thursday (March 26) at 11 a.m. at the Wesley United Methodist Church, East Windsor. Leslie will be interred with his wife in Springdale Cemetery where they met after participation in the Memorial Day Parade in 1933. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday evening (March 25) from 5-7 p.m. at the Bassinger & Dowd Funeral Home, 37 Gardner St. East Windsor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either, Wesley United Methodist Church, 55 North Main St. East Windsor, CT 06088 or Activity Fund East Windsor Senior Center 125 Main St. Broad Brook, CT 06016.For online condolences and direction please visit www.bassingerdowdfh.com.

    Lee W. Prentice IV, passed away Mon. He was born on Sept. 25, 1961 in Cincinnati, OH to Leslie and Delight ( Smith ) Prentice.

    Lee grew up in the Sixteen Acres section of Springfield and graduated in 1979 from Classical High School. He went on to graduate with a degree in Law Enforcement from Western New England College. Lee was assigned to the Detective Bureau of the Springfield Police Dept. for 28 years. He received commendations for an arrest in an armed robbery in 2002 and for his assistance in a murder investigation in 2013. Lee was nationally recognized for his expertise in forensics and finger printing. He was an avid golfer and active member of the Country Club of Wilbraham. Besides his parents,

    He is survived by his wife Judith Prentice and his two daughters, Elizabeth Prentice of Agawam and Margaret Prentice of East Longmeadow, his brother Eric Prentice and his wife Christine of Agawam., his sister Carolyn Bacon and her husband David of East Windsor, CT., and his partner Susan Netter of East Longmeadow.

    Funeral Services will be held FRIDAY 1:30 PM in Trinity United Methodist Church, 361 Sumner Ave., Spfld. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 895 Parker St., Spfld. Calling Hours will be held THURSDAY from 4 to 7 PM in the SAMPSONS CHAPEL OF THE ACRES FUNERAL HOME, 21 TINKHAM RD., SPFLD. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be to the M.S.P.C.A. 350 South Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130.
