He m. Rita Mae Stewart on 23 Apr 1960. She was b. 12 Feb 1940, Amboy, IL, and d. 16 Jan 2017, Leaf River, IL Her obituary reads as follows:

    Sauk Valley Newspapers (Dixon-Sterling, IL) - Thursday, January 19, 2017: Rita Mae Prentice

    LEAF RIVER – Rita Mae Stewart Prentice, 76, of Leaf River, left this life on Earth for eternal happiness in heaven on Monday, Jan. 16, 2017. Rita was born Feb. 12, 1940, in Amboy [IL].

    Rita married Harry Prentice on April 23, 1960, and they were married 56 years.

    Rita was raised, and worked, on her family farm in West Brooklyn, IL. There she was close-knit and greatly loved her parents, five sisters, two brothers, and her calf, Snucks. She worked for The Rug Factory in Amboy, then Carons International in Rochelle for approximately 20 years, and Oregon Nursing Home for 2 years. After many years of hard laboring, she enjoyed relaxing on the several acres she and Harry purchased and built their home on in 1990 in Leaf River. There she enjoyed her free time with her family and her prized cattle, including Tommy.

    She adored planting flowers and a large garden, drinking iced tea under the shade trees, and sitting on her porch. Rita's favorite color was pink; she loved John Deere tractors and collectibles. For more than 30 years, and to this day, Rita proudly devoted her time to raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed time spent with her family, telling stories and jokes, playing card games, and watching the Hallmark Channel. Rita had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor. She was a strong-willed and sincere woman with a loving heart. It was important to Rita that she took care of her family. Rita passed away in her Leaf River home surrounded her closest loved ones.

    Rita is survived her devoted husband, Harry B. Prentice; children, Robin (Gary) Spittler, Harry (Linda) Prentice, Rhonda (Jeremy) DeBord; granddaughters, Danialla Schreiber, Rita A. Prentice, Michelle Spittler; grandsons, Logan Prentice, Adam Spittler, Christian Prentice, Joshua Short, Tyler Short, Noah Spittler, and Jeremy J. DeBord; great- granddaughter, Mackenzie Schreiber; great-grandsons, Dyllan Schreiber and Jaxson Mills; and other close family and friends.

    Rita was preceded in death her parents, Jack and Pauline Stewart; and her beloved brother, John J. Stewart.

    Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, and the funeral at 1 p.m. Saturday at Leaf River Baptist Church, with Pastor Randy Newton officiating. Burial will be at North Grove Evangelical Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations have been established in Rita's memory. The family of Rita Mae Prentice wishes to thank Angie Janicke, RN, Dr. April Moore, and Cheri Gertsch, RN. Prentice might be the son of Harry Bernard Prentice (b. 25 Apr 1885, Wyoming, Lee Co., IL, living 1942 in Wyoming, Lee Co., IL, and d. 27 Jan 1953, Paw Paw, Lee Co., IL, and bur. Wyoming Cem. Lee Co., IL) and Pearl Mary or Mary Pearl (b. c. 1887, IL, and d. 4 Mar 1987, Mendota, LaSall Co., IL.wih her father b. in England and Mother in VA; bur. Wyoming Cem, Lee Co., IL.)
