1. Robert Prentice was likely b. c. 1785-1795, d. prior to 1861. His place of birth is not yet known, but he married in Shotts in 1813 when he was 18-28 and had a son in Shotts in 1819 when he was 24-34.
He m. Agnes Pettigrew on 31 Jan 1813, in Shotts, Lanarkshire. They had 1 or more children, including:
- William Prentice, b. c. 1819, Shotts, Lanarkshire, and d. 23 Feb 1861 in Glasgow. . . . . . . . . . [2]
2. William Prentice was b. c. 1818, Shotts, Lanarkshire, per 1851 census, and d. 23 Feb 1861, 405 Parliamentary Rd., Glasgow, age 43, and reported by his son, John, who was present at the time of death, per Christine Hadden, email, 22 Jun 2016. His death record calls him a Master Blacksmith. In 1851, he had 4 blacksmiths working for him.
He m. Margaret Pettigrew on 20 Jul 1845, Barony, Lanarkshire, Scotland (per IGI and Christine Hadden, above). She was b. c. 1818, Shotts, Lanarkshire, per 1851 & 1861 census, dau. of Jane, b. 1796, Lanark, Lanarkshire. Living in 1901 with sons Robert and William, age 56. Known children:
- Robert Prentice, b. c. 1847. 1851 & 1861 at home per Scotland census. 1861 a Bookkeeper. \ Not married in 1901.
- John Prentice, b. c. 1848. 1851 & 1861 at home per Scotland Census. 1861 a message boy.
- Alexander Prentice, b. c. 1852. 1861 at home in Glasgow.
- William Prentice, b. c. 1854. 1861 at home in Glasgow. Not married in 1901.
- James Prentice, b. 20 Feb 1855, Central District, Glasgow and d. 15 Jan 1860 at a home on Killermont Street, Glasgow, at the age of 6 (per Christine Hadden, email, 26 Aug 2003). Not home in 1861 census.
- Joseph Lamb Prentice, b. 5 Mar 1857, Central District, Glasgow. Not home in 1861 census.
- Peter Winton Prentice, b. 26 Mar 1859, Central District, Glasgow. Not home in 1861 census.
As indicated above, Robert Prentice was likely b. c. 1785-1795, d. prior to 1861. His place of birth is not yet known, but he married in Shotts in 1813 when he was 18-28 and had a son in Shotts in 1819 when he was 24-34.
We checked our listing of Scotland Christening, which is not necessarily complete, and found the following christenings for whom we have not identified a Robert as marrying Agnes Pettigrew:
- 22 May 1791: Robert Prentice, son of John Prentice and Ephy Mason in Cockburnspath.
- 19 Jun 1793: Robert Prentice, son of William Prentice and Grizal Alexander in Carstairs.
