    Robert Shaffer Prentice of Hickory, N.C., formerly a resident of Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills, died Friday, Feb. 18, at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory. Mr. Prentice, 88, was born Nov. 5, 1916, in Chicago. He graduated from Ohio Wesleyan. Mr. Prentice retired as a regional manager from Wilamette Industries in Elk Grove. He was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church.

    He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Edith Papst, and his wife, Nathalie Reid.

    Mr. Prentice is survived by his children, Robert Reid (Sandra), James Alan (Dorcas), Nancy (Harvey) Ahitow of Hinsdale and Sally (Robert) Lee; his grandchildren, Lauren Howell, Reid, Ricarda, Lindsey and Leisl Prentice, Landis Seger, and Greg, Stephen, Alison, Rachel and Erin Lee; and his six great-grandchildren.

    A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 26, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Hickory. The Rev. Dodd Drake will officiate. Interment will be private. Memorials may be made to American Red Cross, Tsunami Fund, PO Box 1329, Hickory, NC 28603. Arrangements were made by Hickory North Carolina Funeral Home.
