1. John Prentice might have been born between 1860 and 1865. Where he was born is not yet known. We do know that his wife, Minnie, died c. 1862 in Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa, so it might be reasonable that, at least for some period time, he lived in South Africa, perhaps in or near Johannesburg.

He m. Minnie Eliza Smithen. She was b. 13 Feb 1864 at an unknown location, adn d. c. 1962 in Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa. An Ancestor Chart for her can be found at Ancestry.com . Her father, John Pennington Smithen, was b. 8 Mar 1836(?) in Wells, Norfolk, England, and d. 16 May 1892 in East London, Eastern Cape, South Africa. Minnie's younger sister, Edith, was b. 2 years after Minnie in Stanley, Falkland Islands.

John Prentice and Minnie Elizabeth Smithen had at least 2 sons per Ancestry.com :

  1. Alexander John Prentice, b. c. 1895 and d. c. 1962, but we do not know where.
  2. David Percy Prentice, b. c. 1896 and d. c.1960 in Meyerton, Gauteng, South Africa.
