1. James Prentice may have been b. c. 1775-1778, perhaps in, or near, Douglas, Lanarkshire, where his daughter, Janet, was chr. in 1799 in Douglas. He also has a brother, John Prentice, b. 11 Sep 1780 in Walston, Scotland (the 1851 census says b. Waltham, Lanarkshire) and d. 28 Mar 1854, Walston, Scotland (see James' daughter, Helen, below).

He m. Margaret Milligan. Children per Glasgow christening records:

  1. Janet Prentice, chr. 22 Dec 1799, Douglas, Lanarkshire.
  2. James Prentice, chr. 2 Aug 1801, Crawfordjohn, Lanarkshire.
  3. Robert Prentice, chr. 22 jUL 1804, Crawfordjohn, Lanarkshire.
  4. Hellen/Helen Prentice, chr. 9 Mar 1807, Crawfordjohn, Lanarkshire. She appears in the 1841 Libberton census with an uncle, John Prentice, b. 11 Sep 1780 in Walston, Scotland (the 1851 census says b. Waltham, Lanarkshire) and d. 28 Mar 1854, Walston, Scotland (see James Peter Prentice of Scotland ).
