He m. Jean Beryl Saunders. She was b. c. 1919 and d. 3 Jan 2011 in Churchill Hospital, Christchurch, NZ Her obituary reads as follows:

Jean Beryl Prentice

PRENTICE, Jean Beryl (nee Saunders). On Monday 3 January 2011 at Churchill Hospital, Christchurch aged 92 years.

Beloved wife of the late Jack, treasured mother of Colin, Mark and Jenny Smith; dearly loved mother-in-law of Margaret, Jenni and Rodney; much loved nana of Andrew and Angela, Emily and Phil, Lucy and John, Tim, Matthew, Ben and Lauren, and Zoe; and loving great nana of Austin, April, Esther, Flynn and Jacob.

Special thanks to the doctors and staff of Churchill Hospital for their loving care of mum. A service of Remembrance and Thanks giving for Jean will be held at the St Columba Presbyterian Church, 480 Ti Rakau Drive, Botany on Friday 7 January at 11.00am followed by private cremation.
