He m. Mary Ann Horsfall on 17 Aug 1846 at Saint Martin In The Fields, Westminster, London. She was b. c. 1826, Camden, Middlesex, London. They had the following children:

2. Emily Sarah Pernty, chr. 18 Nov 1855, Saint Anne Soho, Winminster, and d. Mar. Quarter, 1856, Strand.
3. John William Prenty, chr. 27 May 1855, Saint Mary Soho, Westminster, and d. Dec. Quarter 1856 Strand.
4. Alfred Alexander Prenty, b. 1857, St. Anne Stesh, Westminster St. Anne, Middlexex, chr. 31 Jul 1857, Saint Mary Soho, Westminster. At home in 1861.
5. Emma Jane Prenty, b. 1857, St. Anne Westr, Westminster St. Anne, Middlesex, chr. 3 Jun 1860, Saint Mary Soho, Westminster. At home in 1861.
6. Catherine Alice Prentis, chr. 7 Aug 1864, Saint Mary Soho, Westminster, and d. June Quarter 1861, Strand.
7. Walter Edward Prenty, chr. 7 Aug 1864, Saint Mary Soho, Westminster, and d. Mar. Quarter 1866, Strand.
8. William Jewell Prenty, chr. 20 Oct 1867, Saint Mary Soho, Westminster.

Mary Ann and her children, William and Emma are shown in the 1881 census living in the household of Henry W. Reynolds, Curate Of St Marys Soho, at the Vicarage, Crown St. London.

The surname spelling, Prenty, is most unusual. However, a search of St. Catherine's Index of Deaths in England beginning in 1837 showed only 2 deaths:

1. Jun Quarter, 1867, Thomas Prentys, 50 (b. c. 1817), Strand
2. Dec Quarter, 1912, Rosa F. Prentys, 66 (b. c. 1846), Strand.

Allowing for some spelling variation in the surname, there appears to have been a large number of families of that name in Strand in the center of London (the church in the area was known a St. Mary Le Strand) and nearby Westminster.
