412. William "Bill" Pierce Prentice (John Dow, 218). Born, 19 Aug 1815, CT, and d. 23 Feb 1900 in Peoria, Peoria Co., IL. Resided, 1888, in Mossville, IL[934]. Census: 1850, in Washington, Miami, OH. By letter of 24 Jan 1995, June Prentice provided a copy of a 16 Dec 1888 letter William had written to his sister, Susan, from Mossville, IL, written on Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railway letterhead and identifying him as an "Agent."

He married Mary Riley. Born 20 Apr 1818, OH, and d. 19 Mar 1889 in Peoria, Peoria Co., IL. Census: 1850, in Washington, Miami, OH. Children:

  1. Charlotte Prentice. Born, circa 1840, in OH. Census: 1850, in Washington, Miami, OH.
  2. Abigail/Abby Prentice. Born, Mar 1843, in Dayton, OH, and d. 13 Jan 1892, Peoria, Peoria Co., IL. Census: 1850, in Washington, Miami, OH. Se m. Joshua S. Onstott on 17 Nov 1859, Peoria. He was b. 19 Sep 1832, Pike Co., MO, and d. 16 Dec 1879, Peoria. Ancestor Chart: Ancestry.com . He was a harness and awning manufactuer who learned the trade of harnessmaker in St. Louis, and after working in various places as a journeyman he settled in Peoria in 1855 and opened business on his own account and conducted a shop until his death in 1879. He was the first and principal awning manufacturer of the city. Children:

  5. Lucy/Lucie Prentice. Born, circa 1858 [537]. She married Charles Gifford, 1 Sep 1880, in Mossville, IL[935]. He was b. c. 1846, IL, and d. before the 1930 census. She appears as Lucie Gifford in the 1900 census in Cazenovia, Woodford Co., IL, with her huband and family. 1910 census in Orthel, Hancock Co., IL. Lucy was a widow living with the family of her daughter, Amy, in the 1920 and 1930 census.Children:

    1. Amy J. Gifford, b. c. 1884. She appears in the 1920 Cazenovia census with her husband, Tarrel Braun, b. c. 1880, IL. Children:
      1. Lucie Braun, b. c. 1904, IL. At home in 1920.
