He probably d. before 1880 as his wife appears in the 1880 census as the wife of E. William Oldfield. He may have d. before 1870 as his daughter, Josephine, appears in the 1870 census in an Orphan Asylum in Monroe Co., NY.

He m. Anna Mullcha, b. c. 1842-1845, Canada. Known children:

  1. Mary Ann Prentice, b. c. 1859, Canada. In the 1880 census she is living with her mother and stepfather in Rochester, NY.

  3. Ellen P. Prentice, b. c. 1863, Canada. In the 1880 census she is living with her mother and stepfather in Rochester, NY.

She may, or may not, be the Josephine Painchaud shown in the 1900 Rochester census as the wife of Ziphenan Painchaud.

After her husband's death, Anna appears in the 1880 Rochester, Monroe Co., NY census as the wife of E. William Oldfield, b. c. 1838, NY.

2. John A. Prentice, b. c. 1861, English Canada. In the 1880 census she is living with her mother and stepfather in Rochester, NY. He appears in the 1900 census in Buffalo Ward 4, Erie Co., NY with his wife and family. He does not appear in the 1910 or 1920 census and might have returned to Canada.

  1. Gertrude E. Prentice, b. c. 1887, NY. At home in 1900 in Buffalo, Erie Co., NY.
  2. Lilian/Lillian Prentice, b. c. 1892, NY. At home in 1900 in Buffalo, Erie Co., NY.
  3. Irene F. Prentice, b. c. 1897, NY. At home in 1900 in Buffalo, Erie Co., NY.

3. William Louis Prentice was b. c. 1865 in English Canada, as were both of his parents.

He does not appear in the 1870 census, but does appear in the 1880 census in Rochester at the age of 14 (b. c. 1866) working in a Tailor Shop. He appears in the 1910, 1920 and 1930 census (incorrectly indexed in 1920 as William L. Prenlice). In 1930 his occupation was a Lather in the Building Trades. 1940 census in Brighton, Munroe Co., NY as an "Inmate" in the Monroe County Infirmary & Home (for Aged). He is shown as married, but his wife is not there.

According to the 1910 census, he emigrated to the United States in 1869 at the age of 4, undoubtedly with his parents.

He m. Catherine A., b. c. 1882, NY, with both parents b. in NY.. Her father was b. in England and her mother in Ireland. Children:

4. Howard Prentice, b. c. 1914, NY (incorrectly indexed in 1920 as William L. Penlice). At home in Rochester in 1920 and 1930. He is probably the Howard Prentice shown in the SSDI as b. 27 Jun 1914, obtained his SS# in NY, and d. Oct 1986 in Nineveh, Broome Co., NY. He m. Marjorie G. Merritt. She was b. c. 1916, dau. of Elmer Merritt and Mable Walling. An Ancestor Chart for Marjorie can be found at Ancestry.com . Her obituary reads as follows:

Nineveh: Marjorie G. Prentice, 95, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 21, 2011.

She was predeceased by her husband, Howard Prentice; her parents, Elmer Merritt and Mable Walling Merritt; her brothers and sisters, Richard, Lois, Irma, Ruth, and Stanton. She is survived by her daughters, Shirley Garbett, and Susan and Brian Dwyer; her grandchildren, Nichole Dwyer, Brett Dwyer, Richard and Patty Howe, and Alan Howe; several great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews; and her brother, Robert Merritt.

Marjorie and her husband, Howard, owned and operated a poultry farm in Doraville, NY for many years. She was a longtime member of Doraville and Harpursville United Methodist churches. She enjoyed making quilts, playing golf, pool, and many card games. In their many married years together, Marjorie and Howard travelled to every state in the continental United States.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, July 25, 2011, at Harpursville United Methodist Church, Rt. 79, Harpursville, with Pastor Sue Shields officiating. Burial will follow at Knox Cemetery in Ouaquaga. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of service.

  1. Shirley Prentice. She m. Mr. Garbett.
  2. Susan Prentice. She m. Brian Dwyer. Children:
    1. Nichole Dwyer
    2. Brett Dwyer,

Also shown as grandchildren of Howard and Marjorie are (1) Richard Howe, (2) Patty Howe, and (3) Alan Howe, but the identity of their parents are not yet clear.
