1. Thomas Prentice was b. c. 1809 at a presently unknown location in Northern Ireland and d. 27 Sep 1879 in Drumcree, Northern Ireland, at the age of 70 years. Drumcree lies about 100 miles SSW of Belfast and perhaps about 50 miles NW of Dublin.

From the birth location of his sons, Adam and Seth, we know that he and his family in 1857 and 1859 were likely living in Portadown, Northern Ireland, which lies approximately 25 miles SW of Belfast

He m. Ruth Jones. She was b. c. 1826 in Derrycarne, Northern Ireland, and d. 14 Sep 1873 at the age of only about 47 years. Their known children are per Ancestry.com :

2. William J Prentice, b. 1849 at a presently unknown location in Northern Ireland, and d. 1930 in Hartford, CT, USA. He likely would have been living with his family in Portadown in 1857 and 1859. In 1907 he lived on Manchester St., Hartford, Hartford Co., CT. In the 1920 Hartford census he is a widower living with his son, John, and his wife. In the 1930 Hartford census he was then 75 years of age, living with his daughter, Elizabeth, and her family, and apparently died there later that same year.

He m. Agnes Newman. She was b. 1858 in Ayrshire, Scotland and d. 1917 in Hartford, CT. in 1907 had been living in Cairnyan, Scotland. Agnes first appears in Ellis Island Records aboard the "Columbia" which had departed from Glasgow, Scotland and arrived in New York on 5 Feb 1907. Her declared intention was to join her husband in Hartford, CT. Agnes was described in immigration records as 5' 5", pale complexion, fair hair, and blue eyes.Children:

  1. Barbara Elinor Prentice. She m. Leonard McCarvill. She is not shown as accompanying her mother to the US in 1907 and may have remained, and married, in Northern Ireland. Or, she may have accompanied her father who had preceeded his wife in coming to the USA.

  2. Thomas Prentice. He accompanied his mother, Agnes, to the US in 1907. He m. Mary. It is unclear whether he is the Thomas Prentice shown in the 1920 Hartford, CT, census as b. c. 1889, Scotland, as unmarried.

  3. Elizabeth "Bess" Prentice, b. c. 1896, Cairnvan, Scotland. She accompanied her mother, Agnes, to the US in 1907. She m. Fred Crickmore. She is probably the Elizabeth Crickmore who appears in the 1920 census in S. Windsor, Hartford Co., CT, as b. c. 1896, Scotland, with her husband, James F. (Fred?) Crickmore, b. c. 1891, England. In the 1930 census in Hartford. Neither are shown in the SSDI. Children shown in 1930 census:

She was b. 1887 in Greenack, Scotland, and d. 1975, New York, USA. Children:

Neither appear in Ellis Isand records. Naturalized citizen in 1914. He m. Sarah Quinn on 3 Jun 1910, Boston, MA. She was b in Ireland, dau. of James Quinn and Sarah Lisk, both also b. in Ireland. Naturalized citizen in 1914. They appear in the 1930 census in Douglas, Worcester Co., MA, without children of their own, but with their nephew, Edward Prentice, #3(iv)(d), below. Sarah appears as a widow in the 1940 census in Upton, Worcester Co., MA.

        WORCESTER -- Edward C. W. Prentice, 87, formerly of 29 Ekman St., died Saturday, April 20, in Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in Millbury. He was born in Portadown, Northern Ireland, son of Elizabeth Prentice Whiteside. Note that Ireland Civil Registration Indexes, 1845-1958, says he was b. in Lurgan, which is only about 6 miles from Portadown, both in Co. Armagh.

        Mr. Prentice was a stationary engineer for General Motors Corp. in Framingham for 15 years, retiring in 1984. Previously, he had been a stationary engineer for the former Whitin Machine Works in Whitinsville for 34 years. He was a member of The Christadelphians.

        He leaves his wife of 63 years, Jessie (Kennedy) Prentice; a son, Wesley A. Prentice of Whitinsville; a daughter Nancy E. Ohman of Auburn; a brother, David A. Whiteside of Glastonbury, Conn.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces.

        The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, in Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln St. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Upton. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 22, in the funeral home. She was born April 28, 1900, in Scotland, Conn., and resided in Manchester for 47 years. She was a member of Second Congregational Church, Manchester. Mrs. Prentice is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph A. and Ruth Hebenstreit of Glastonbury; a daughter and son-in-law, Eleanor and Edward Wilson of Manchester; a sister-in-law, Martha Cortright of Michigan; 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons, Clarence M., and William L. Hebenstreit. A memorial service will be Sunday, Aug. 14, 1994, 4 p.m., at Second Congregational Church, 385 N. Main St., Manchester.     Edward J. Prentice, 86, lifelong resident of Manchester and loving husband for 64 years to Doris A. (Carlson) Prentice, died Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at Manchester Manor after losing his battle with pneumonia. He was born in Manchester on November 2, 1925, one of three children of Thomas and Anna (Howarth) Prentice. He attended Manchester schools, graduating from Manchester High School in 1944. He joined the US Navy, serving with the Seabees in the Pacific during World War II. Ed was an engineer at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Company for over forty years before retiring in 1987. He was a member of Masonic Lodge # 73 of Manchester, and attended Emanuel Lutheran Church. He was an avid car buff. and a creative and inventive jack-of-all-trades.

    He is survived by his wife and two children, Scott Thomas Prentice of Manchester and Laura Ann Witt of Vernon, and a sister, Betty Ann Schindler of Broad Brook. Besides his parents, Ed was predeceased by his sister, Dorothy Hartmann. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, April 3, at 11:30 AM in the East Cemetery (Section 16 Harrison), 240 East Center Street, Manchester. Visiting hours are Monday, April 2, from 4 PM to 7 PM at the Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester.     Ena (Hooks) Prentice Erikson, 86, of Manchester, beloved wife of Leslie C. Erikson and the late Irving H. Prentice, was called home to glory on Friday, (June 8, 2001) in Manchester. She was born in Manchester, October 24, 1914 to the late Thomas and Martha (McRoberts) Hooks who immigrated from Northern Ireland in 1913.

    A lifelong resident of Manchester, she was employed at the Mary Cheney Library for 56 years, she was brought up and raised as a member of the Salvation Army Citadel and was currently a member of South United Methodist Church. Mrs. Erikson enjoyed playing bridge and square dancing.

    She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Martha and Thomas Aparo of East Hartford, and Linda and William Barrett of Milford. A big part of her life was dedicated to her beloved grandchildren and their spouses, Andrew and Tina Loew of New Jersey, Edward and Tracy Loew of Arizona, Thomas and Sharyl Nevins of Hebron, Sean and Lori Nevins, William and Cherie Nevins, Michael and Susan Nevins, all of Manchester, Kathryn and Kerry McKinney of Manchester; ten great grandchildren, Andrew P Loew, Jr., Sarah Nevins, Thomas Nevins Jr., Sean P. Nevins Jr., Daniel Nevins, Kasey Anne Nevins, William J. Nevins, Michael Nevins Jr., Samuel McKinney and Mary Kate McKinney.

    Also, she leaves seven step-children, Anne Meyer, Marjorie Banyan, Barbara Carroll, Norma Jackson, Judith Hall, David Erikson and James Erikson, all living out of state. She leaves many step-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three sisters, Lilly Poots, Meta Rogers and Miriam Binkerd. She also leaves several nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

    Funeral services will be Monday, June 11, 10 a.m., at the South United Methodist Church, 1226 Main St., Manchester. Burial will follow at East Cemetery, Manchester. Friends and family may call Sunday, June 10, 6-8 p.m. Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main St., Manchester. Memorial contributions may be made to charity of the donor's choice.

      Linda E. (Prentice) ''Nevins'' Barrett, 65, of Milford and formerly of Manchester, beloved wife of William E. Barrett, died Friday (August 8, 2008) at her home after a brief but courageous battle with A.L.S. ''Lou Gerhig's Disease''.

      Linda was born July 7, 1943 in Manchester, beloved daughter of the late Irving H. and Ena T. (Hooks) Prentice and had lived most of her life in Manchester before moving to Milford eight years ago.

      Prior to her retirement she was the Payroll Officer at the J.C. Penny Distribution Center in Manchester. Linda enjoyed many hobbies including building doll houses and the furniture for the houses, she was a talented painter, artist and photographer. Linda was especially fond of traveling via cruise ship having boarded eight ships in seven years with her husband Bill.

      In addition to her loving husband Bill, she is survived by five children, Thomas W. Nevins and his wife Sharyl of Hebron, Sean P. Nevins of Manchester, William T. Nevins and his wife Cherie of Manchester, Michael A. Nevins and his wife Sue of Tolland, Katie M. McKinney and her husband Kerry of Manchester, her sister Martha Aparo and her husband Thomas of East Hartford, ten grandchildren, Sarah, Thomas Jr., Sean Patrick, Danny, Kaseyann, William, Mikey, Sidney, Sam and Mary Kate and two nephews.

      Other survivors include Bills children and grandchildren, Dawn Marie Weimer and her husband Bob of Guilford, Sandy Foley and her husband Brian of Chicago, IL., Karen Vega and her husband Angel of Seymour, William Barrett of Milford, nine grandchildren, Tiffany, Danielle, Bobby, Cody, Kyle, Sara, Kristina, Jose, Airial, and great grandson Jason.

      Funeral services will be held Monday August 11, at 11 a.m. at the South United Methodist Church, 1126 Main St., Manchester. Burial will be in the East Cemetery.     Pearl E. Dorey, 79, of East Hartford, wife of the late Alfred J. Dorey, Jr., passed away Thursday, (May 25, 2000) in Manchester. Born August 12, 1920, in Manchester, she had resided in East Hartford for the last 50 years.

    Prior to her retirement, she was employed by the State of Connecticut Board of Education Services for the Blind.

    She was a devoted mother to two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Lee "Johnny" Platt of Manchester, Nancy and Douglas Joyce of East Hartford, with whom she made her home; a son, Richard Dorey of Boca Raton, FL; a daughter-in-law, Roxanne Dorey Flanders of Portsmouth, RI; a special sister-in-law, Louise Dory of Coventry; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, William "Bill" Dorey.

    A Memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 31, 10 a.m. at the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of CT, East Hartford Branch, 111 Founders Plaza, East Hartford, CT 06108.

She m. Alfred Joseph Dorey Jr. who was b. 1 Aug 1920, Fall River, MA. 1997 lived in East Hartford, CT. They had 4 children:

    VENNART. Norma (Prentice) Vennart, 69, of Manchester, wife of Elmer G. Vennart, died Monday, (March 24, 1997), at a local convalescent home. Born June 14, 1927 in Manchester, she was a life long resident and prior to retiring in 1992, was a bookkeeper at Clarke Insurance Agency, Manchester, for over 40 years. She was a member of South United Methodist Church.

    Besides her husband, Mrs. Vennart is survived by two daughters, Marsha (Vennart) Olson of Belchertown, MA., and Karen (Vennart) Pelt zer of Farmington, two grandchildren, Kristin Olson and Lindsey Peltzer, a sister, Pearl Dorey of East Hartford and several nieces and nephews.

    Funeral services will be Thursday, (March 27), 12:30 p.m. at Holmes Funeral Home, 400 Main Street, Manchester . Burial will be in East Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
