Who are Richard Prentice's Parents?

By email of 289 Mar 2007, Shelyn Prentice quotes her grandmother, Richard's wife, as saying that Richard's mother was named Dorothy, that she later m. Jason King, "that thery were both divorced, so they made a good couple."

Dorothy and Jason lived in Watertown, Jefferson Co., NY, where they raised Richard. Jason owned a car dealership in Watertown. Jason King may be the Jason L. King, b. c. 1890, NY, who appears in the 1920 and 1930 census in Watertown, Jefferson Co., NY, with his wife, Mabel, b. c. 1891, NY, and son:

  1. Harold L. King, b. c. 1912, NY.

Richard does not appear in their 1920 or 1930 household (but see "Scott Prentice," in the 1920 census, below).

Shelyn Prentice's father, email, 29 Mar 2007 relates that Richard's father "is rumored to be a person named Scott" from Plattsburgh, Clinton Co., NY.

Richard is almost certainly the Richard Prentus who appears in the 1910 census in Plattsburg, Clinton Co., NY, age 2 (b. c. 1907-08, NY, and called a nephew of the head of the household, Phebe Bonnie, a widow, b. c. 1847, Canada (French), as were both of her parents and whose occupation is given as "Laundress." That 1910 census shows Richard's father as b. in Scotland and his mother in NY. Phebe Bonnie does not appear in the earlier 1900 Clinton Co. census. For now, it is unclear whether Phebe is a married sister of Richard's mother, or whether Richard's blood line is that of Phebe's deceased husband.

There is a good chance that Richard is the same person identified in the 1920 Plattsburg census as Scott Prentice, age 2 (b. c. 1907-08),, NY, called a nephew of Leander Lacy(?) (indexed as "Tacy") (b. c. 1840, Canada) and his wife, Phoebe, b. 1847, Canada).
