In reviewing the 1841 census we found the following family associated with Eaglesham, Renfrewshire:
1. Thomas Prentice was b. c. 1796 in Carluke, Lanarkshire Scotland. He appears in the 1841, 1851 and 186 1 census in Eaglesham, Renfrewshire, with his wife and family.
He m. Isbal/Isabelle/Isabella Watson who was b. c. 1796, Renfrewshire (per 1841 census) or b. c. 1794, Kilbride, Lanarkshire (per 1851 and 1861 census); it might also be that the latter woman is a 2nd wife. Known children:
- Agness Prentice, b. c. 1821, Eaglesham, Renfrewshire. At home in Eaglesham in the 1841 census.
- Janet Prentice, b. c. 1826, Eaglesham, Renfrewshire. At home in Eaglesham in the 1841 census.
- Alexander Prentice, b. c. 1822 or 1826, Eaglesham, Renfrewshire. . . . . . . . . . . . . [2]
- Mary Prentice, b. c. 1827, Eaglesham, Renfrewshire. At home in Eaglesham in the 1841 census.
- James Prentice, b. 24 May 1830, Eaglesham, Renfrewshire. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . [3]
- Isabal Prentice, b. c. 1833, Eaglesham, Renfrewshire. At home in Eaglesham in the 1841, 1851 and 1861 census.
- Margret/Margaret Prentice, b. c. 1835, Eaglesham, Renfrewshire. At home in Eaglesham in the 1841, 1851 and 1861census.
Living with Thomas' family in 1851 and 1861 was a grandson, Thomas Prentice, b. c. 1840, Eaglesham. Living with Thomas' family in 1861 was another grandson, John White, b. c. 1856, Eaglesham, and a granddaughter, Isabella W. McLean, b. c. 1858, Eaglesham.
2. Alexander Prentice, b. c. 1826 (per 1841 census) or b. c. 1822 (per 1851 census), Eaglesham, Renfrewshire. He d. after 1902, North Drumboy, Fenwick, Ayrshire. At home in Eaglesham in the 1841 and 1851 census. He appears in the 1861 census as b. c, 1823, Eaglesham, with his wife and family.
He m. Agnes, b. c. 1825, Eaglesham, Renfrewshire, and d. before 1900, North Drumboy, Fenwick, Ayrshire. Children per 1861 census:
- Thomas Prentice, b. c. 1854, Enoch Lodge, Eaglesham. At home in Eaglesham in the 1861 census. 1881 , 1891 and 1901 at home with his parents and his wife. He m. Elizabeth, b. c. 1870, Fenwick, Ayrshire.
- Margaret H. Prentice, b. c. 1856, Enoch Lodge, Eaglesham. At home in Eaglesham in the 1861 census. 1881 at home in North Drumboy, Fenwick, Ayrshire. 1891 at home and called "Agnes H. Prentice."
- Hugh Prentice, b. c. 1859, Enoch Lodge, Eaglesham, and d. there before 1870. At home in Eaglesham in the 1861 census. 1901 not home.
- Agnes W. Prentice, b. c. 1864, Eaglesham, Renfrewshire. 1881 at home. 1901 at home.
3. James Prentice, b. 24 May 1830, Eaglesham, Renfrewshire, and d. 25 Feb 1900, Corslet Farm Newton Mearns, Renfrewshire. At home in Eaglesham in the 1841, 1851 and 1861 census.
He m. Janet Watt. She was b. 27 May 1839, Shields Farm, East Kilbride, Lanarkshire, and d. 1 May 1916, Neilston, Paisley, Renfrewshire. She was the dau. of Thomas Watt (1792-1879) and Janet Reid (1809-1850). Children per Ancestry.com :
- Janet "Jessie" Prentice, b. 25 Jun 1869, Mearns, Renfrewshire, and d. 1 Sep 1946, Wraes Farm, Neiston, Renfrewshire.
- Isabella Watson Prentice, b. 27 Mar 1871, Corslet Farm, Mearns, Renfrewshire, and d. 29 Jul 1898, Muirhead Farm, Kirkstyle, Neilston, Renfrewshir.
- Jane "Jean" Prentice , b. c. 1873, Mearns, Renfrewshire.
- Thomas Prentice, b. c. 1875, Mearns, Renfrewshire. 1901 in Newton Mearns, Renfrewshire.
- Agnes Prentice, b. c. 1878, Mearns, Renfrewshire, and d. 18 Oct 1947, Wraes Farm, Neilston, Renfrewshire.
- Mary Prentice, b. c. 1882, Corslet Farm, Mearns, Renfrewshire, and d. 20 Dec 1941, Victoria Infirmary, Glasgow. She m. George Strang who was b. 20 Sep 1874, High Craig, Eaglesham, Lanarkshire. They had a son, George Jr., b. 4 Oct 1909, Laggeston Farm, Kennishead Rd., Glasgow.
