By emails of 16 Mar 2007, Sandy Canterbury sent us the following obituaries. All are from Akron Beacon Journal. Akron, Summit Co., OH. Except as noted, there was insufficient information in the obituaries to enable us to connect them with their families and roots:
1. Edith (King-Burger) Prentiss: 5 Dec 1989, pg. B6, col. 1. The non-mention of her husband seems to indicate that he was deceased. The names of her sons seems to indicate that it was a 2nd marrage for her.
- Lansing, Mich. -- Edith (King-Burger) Prentiss, 88 [b. c. 1901], formerly of Ewart Road and Pauline Avenue,
passed away Dec. 2 in Lansing Mich. Mrs. Prentiss is survived by sons Robert (Janet) King of Lansing, Mich.
and Richard (Carol) King of Akron; daughters, Gertrude (James) Hugg of Castle Creek, N.Y., Helen (Oscar) Pullman
of Gardenia, Calif.; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held TODAY
at Howard Funeral Home in Shinglehouse, Pa.
2. Maxine P. "Max" Prentice. Sat. 14 Jan 1995, pg C5, col. 4:
- Florida -- Maxine P. "Max" Prentice, 75 [b. c. 1920], of Tequesta, Fla., formerly of Akron, passed away
Jan. 10, 1995. Mrs. Prentice was born in Meigs County, Ohio, and formerly worked at George Ellis Sporting Goods
as a sales clerk. She is survived by husband, J. Nat Prentice; son and daughter-in-law Tom
and Lori Prentice of Akron; daughter-in-law Sue Prentice of Tallmadge; sisters Mrs. Doris Grueser of Racine, Ohio,
Mrs. Ann King of Newark, and Mrs. Ruth Herdman of Lakeview; grandchildren, Chris, Tom, Tim, Todd, Gina, Chris,
Ryan, Shaun, Ricky, and Drista; great-grandchildren, Jesika, Timmy, and Kara. Funeral services at the
Prentice Funeral Home, 1154 Kenmore blvd., Monday, 1 p.m., with Dr. Paul D. Outland officiating.
Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Friends may call Sunday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. (Prentice, 753-7721.)
3. Mrs. Minnie M. Prentice. 11 May 1945, pg. 26, col. 6:
- Mrs. Minnie Prentice, 68 [b. c. 1877], of 649 Minerva pl., died today. She leaves
her husband, Shallas R.; a brother, William McDougall of Cuyahoga Falls, and two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Bunker
of Hartville and Mrs. H. W. Griffin of Stamford, N.Y. Services are being arranged at the Billow chapel.
4. Helen M. Prentice. 27 Apr 1996, pg. C6, col. 5. The non-mention of her husband seems to indicate that he was deceased.
- Cuyahoga Falls -- Helen M. Prentice, 82 [b. c. 1914] of Cuyahoga Falls, went home to be with the Lord
on April 25, 1996. Mrs. Prentice was born in Philadelphia and lived in the area most of her life.
She had worked as a Licensed Professional Nurse and was also a member of the Akron Transportation Co. Auxiliary.
She was the beloved mother of daughters, Mary Louise (Louis) Stefanov, Evelyn (Bill) Eberhard, both of New Mexico, Betty (John) Dennis of Atwater, and is also survived by sister Catherine (Art) Dohner of Akron; grandchildren, Connie, Kathy, Chris, Mark, Don, Steve, Kelly, Arlene, Gail, Lynn, Gwen, John, Jeanne, Jim, and Patty; 34 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; Sisters-in-law, Dorothy Binns, Evelyn Binns, and Winnie Binns. Friends may call at the Prentice Funeral Home, 1154 Kenmore blvd., Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. Services announced later. (Prentice 753-7721)
5. Robert B. Prentice. Tues. 9 Mar 1943 pg. 27, col. 8:
- PRENTICE, Robert B., of 263 N Baird av., Barberton, died March 9. Survived by wife, Viola;
daughters, Charlotte and Jeanne; cousin, John P. Rogers; one nephew, Stuart Prentice.
Services 2 p.m. Thursday Campfield-Hickman chapel.
Rev. Scott Withrow officiating. Interment Greenlawn. Frieds may call at the chapel.
6. John Prentice. 1 Jul 1940, pg. 22, col. 8:
- John Prentice of Bayonne, N.J., died Sunday a.m. Survived by one son, Stuart; one brother, Robert.
Services 2 p.m. Tuesday at First U.P. church, Baberton, Rev. Floyd Withrow and Masonic lodge in charge.
Interment Lakewood. (The Campfield-Hickman Co.)
John may be a brother to the Robert B. Prentice, #5 above.
