Margaret Prentice is the daughter of David Prentice who is #4(vi)(c) in our Fall 2000 article entitled John Prentice, Laird of Stone, Scotland . That article now replaces this article.

1. Margaret Prentice was b. c. 1813 in Lanark, Lanarkshire, Scotland. She appears in the 1851 census in Lanark as a Pirn Winder living at 3 Greenside Lane with her husband and family. 1861 census at 8 Bannatyne St., Lanark. 1871 a Worsted Weaver living on Bonnet Road, Lanark.

She m. John Wilson who was b. c. 1818, Lanark, Lanarkshire. He appears in the 1851 census as a Cotton Weaver.

Margaret and John are buried in the Lanark Cemetery (St. Kentigern's Churchyard) shown on the headstone as b. c. 1814 and d. 1899, age 85.

That headstone says that Margaret m. John Wilson who was d. 6 Jan 1887. Children shown on their headstone (per Christine Hadden, email, 7 Sep 2003):

  1. Helen Wilson, inf.
  2. John Wilson, b. c. 1850 and d. 2 Dec 1882, age 32.
    1. John Wilson, b. c. 1881 and d. 24 Apr 1883, age 2.

  1. Agnes Wilson, b. c. 1850, Lanark. At home in 1851, 1861 and 1871 census.
  2. George Wilson, b. c. 1844, Lanark. At home in 1851, 1861 and 1871 census.
  3. Helen Wilson, b. c. 1848, Lanark. At home in 1851 and 1861 census.
  4. John Wilson, b. c. 1851, Lanark. At home in 1851 and 1861 census. May be a Lodger in either Livingstone or Whitburn in the 1871 census.
  5. Margaret Wilson, b. c. 1855, Lanark. At home in 1861 and 1871 census.
