1. John Prentice may have been b. c. 1835-1845 and perhaps in Scotland where his wife was born, or perhaps in Victoria, Australia were he married in 1865. He d. in Australia.
He m. Janet "Jessie" Handry Nairn in 1865 in Victoria, Australia. She was b. 5 Jan 1847 in Irvine, Ayrshire, Scotland. She was the dau. of Alexander Nairn and Mary Blair. An Ancestor Chart for Janet can be found at Ancestry.com . Children:
- Jessie Prentice, b. 1867 in Ararat or Wood (?), Victoria, Australia, and d the following year, 1868.
- Alexander Prentice, b. 1868 in Beaufort, Victoria, Australia, and d. 8 years later in 1876.
- Unnamed Prentice, b. 1870 in Shirley (near Beaufort), Victoria, Australia
- Margaret Prentice, b. 1871 in Shirley (near Beaufort), Victoria, Australia, and d. 5 years later in 1876.
- Mary Prentice, b. 1873 in Buangor (near Ararat / Beaufort), Victoria, Australia, and d. a year and a half later in 1875.
An entry by Mary Cotter at Ancestry.com indicates that John may have m. 2nd Mary Sands in 1877.
