He m. Rosa (Turner?) b. c. 1897, KY, as were her parents. She appears in the CA Death Index as Rosa Jean (Turner) Prentice, b. 15 Feb 1895 and d. 14 Jul 1951 in Ventura, Ventura Co., CA. Her mother's maiden surname is given as Payton. Children:

4. Ernest Prentice, b. c. 1916, KY. At home in the 1930 census in Ventura, Ventura Co. CA. Subject to further investigation for confirmation, we tentatively identify him as the same Ernest Prentice, b. 13 Jun 1915, who obtained his SS# in CA, and d. Jul 1983 in Tacoma, Pierce Co., WA.

We also tentatively identify him as the husband of Florence (Madden) Prentice. Tacoma was where Florence's obituary was published in 1994. Since Florence (Madden) Prentice was a 38 year residence of Pierce Co., WA, at the time of her death, we checked the SSDI for any male Prentice who died there and who was b. c. 1915-1923. The above Ernest Prentice was the only 1 found in Tacoma, Pierce Co., WA.

Florence (Pat) Madden was b. 1 Aug 1921 in Friday Harbor, San Juan Island, WA, and was a 38 year resident of Pierce Co., WA, (moved there c. 1956) and d. 15 Jul 1994. She was a secretary for the Clover Park School District for 20 years. Her other interests included gardening and reading. Graveside services were held at St. Francis Cemetery at Friday Harbor. Arrangements were provided by Mountain View Funeral home, 584-0252 (per her obit. in the 20 Jul 1994 News Tribune, Tacoma, WA).

She m. Mr. Prentice who apparently predeceased her since his name is not given in her obituary. Surviving children include:

1. Michael V. Prentice, and wife Patricia, of Dallas, TX,
2. R. Daniel Prentice, and wife Deborah, of Newport.
3. Jeffrey T. Prentice of Seattle and Friday Harbor

Her obituary mentions 5 grandchildren:

4. Alexandra Prentice
5. Lincoln Prentice

The 1841 Scotland census shows 5 men who might be John Peterson Prentis:

Of those 5, the first 2 seem the most promising because of the spelling of the surname. Investigation is continuing.
