He m. Alma A. Hunter, b. c. 1859, IA (the 1915 IA State Census says b. c. 1862, Juiney, IA), with both parents b. in OH. The 1925 Iowa State census in Deloit, Crawford Co., IA, identifies her father as john A. Hunter (b. OH) and Mary A. Henry . OH).

She appears as divorced in the 1900 census living with her children next door to Jacob's brother, Franklin Prentice. (b. Jun 1846, IA, with his father b. in Canada and mother in NY) and his wife, Mary, b. Jul 1852, OH, with her father b. in England and mother in NY).

Alma appears in the 1910 census in Milford, Crawford Co., IA, with her son, Clyde. Children of Jacob and Alma:

She m. Charles T. Childress, b. Jul 1876, IA. Her wedding was reported in the local newspaper which, confirms the identify of her father as Jacob Lewis Prentice, reads as follows:

    *Married- At the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Prentice, on last Wednesday evening, Mr. Chas. Childress and Miss Lelia Prentice, Rev. West, the M. E. pastor, officiating. The wedding was a quiet one only the nearest relatives being invited. An elegant and delicious supper was served and the bride and groom were the recipients of many useful present. They have been residents of this place for many years and are well and favorably known, and their many friends join in wishing them a happy and prosperous journey through life. They are going to build on Mr. Childress' place near Elgin and as soon as their home is erected will be at home.
