Valentine Prentice of Felsted, Essex, England
By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor
Winter 2005 and Revised 21 Dec 2005

1. Valentine Prentice married Marie Luke on 15 Jan 1585 in Felsted where their first son, John, was born in 1587. She was born about 1565. The "The American Genealogist" (TAG) article, at pg. 174, suggests that she is the "Mary Prentice", identified in Felsted church burial records as "the wife of Valentine Prentise," buried 12 Feb 1627/8. If the same person, she would been about 63. Valentine and Marie had at least six children:

  1. John Prentice. Born about October, 1587 in Felsted, Essex, England and bap. there on 22 Oct 1587.

  2. Elizabeth Prentice. Born about February, 1588/9 in Felsted, Essex, England and bap. there on 15 Feb 1588/9.

  3. Daniell Prentis. Born about December, 1593 in Felsted, Essex, England and bap. there 16 Dec 1593. According to Chelmsford records, a Danyell Prentys, weaver, married Margaret Northey on 28 Oct 1617. He may be the Daniell born in 1593 who would have been 23 that year. In his article in "The American Genealogist," (TAG) Leslie Mahler related that Daniell apparently is the "Danyell Prentys," a young man of Chelmsford, weaver, was bur. on 27 Feb 1617/8. He would have been 24 years of age. Following his death, they had a posthumous daughter:
    1. Susan Prentice, bap. Oct 1618. So far nothing further is known about her.

  4. Susan Prentice. Born about April, 1597 in Felsted, Essex, Eng. Baptism: 24 Apr 1597, in Felsted, Essex, Eng.17. Chelmsford records show a Susan Prentys married Henry Pryer on 1 May 1619. As of 2005, no children for them are shown in the LDS IGI or Ancestral File.

  5. Valentine Prentice.

  6. Francis Prentice. Born about May, 1605 in Felsted, Essex, Eng. Baptism: 20 May 1605, in Felsted, Essex, Eng.17. According to Leslie Mahler's TAG article, pg. 174, Francis was a weaver of Moulsham in the parish of Chelmsford. Moulsham now lies in Chelmsford. He and his wife, Mary (surname unknown) had the following children born between 1626 and 1635, presumably at Moulsham in the Parish of Chelmsford:
    1. Francis Prentice, bap. Dec 1626.
    2. Mary/Marie Prentice, bap. Sep 1630.
    3. John Prentice, bap. Mar 1632 and bur. Dec 1633.
    4. Stephen/Steven Prentice, bap. 16 Feb 1633/4.
    5. John Prentice, bap. Mar 1635/6 and bur. Jun 1636.
