1. Joseph Prentiss was b. c. 1789-90 in MA, (perhaps Boston, Suffolk Co., MA per IGI or Malden, Middlesex per Ancestry.com ) and d. before 1860 since he does not appear with his wife in the 1860 census.. He appears in the 1850 census in Stoneham, Middlesex Co., MA as a Shoemaker with his wife and family.
He m. Anne Wright Noble in Dec 1816 , Stoneham, Middlesex. She was b. 1 Feb 1792, Stoneham, Middlesex Co., MA (per IGI) and was the dau. of John Noble (1759-1839) and Mary Wright (1762-1813). Children:
- John N. Prentiss, b. c. 1828, MA, Shoemaker. He appears in the 1860 Stoneham census, unmarried, living with his mother, Anne/Anna.
- William Prentiss, b. c. 1829, MA, Shoemaker.
Given the ages of the sons in 1850, 22 and 21, it seems likely that there were additional children born in the preceding years. Appearing in the 1860 Stoneham census is Joseph Prentice, age 38 and b. c. 1822, MA, and perhaps a son of Joseph and Anna. Listed next of Joseph is Phebe A. Prentice, perhaps his wife, b. c. 1834, Canada.
A search of the IGI had suggested one possibility. It shows a Joseph Prentiss, chr. 15 Nov 1789, Cambridge, Middlesex Co., MA, son of Thomas Prentiss. However, that Joseph Prentiss d. 4 Sep 1802, Dysentery.
