The first clue we have so far is that Hannah was b. 1804 in Delaware. However, we checked the 1800 and 1810 Delaware census and no Prentice, Prentiss or Prentis family appears.

The second clue is that it is probable that she is a sister to Thomas Prentice who was b. c. 1805 in Delaware and who lived in proximity to Hannah at various dates. See our article about Thomas Prentice of DE, NY and MI .

By email of 3 Nov 2010, Fred Printiss suggests Hannah Prentiss might be a daughter of Stephen Prentiss Stephen who in the 1810 census was married, living in Pulteny, Steuben Co. NY,and at that time had a daughter born 1800-1810. The "Gazetteer of Steuben County, 1891" relates that in 1805, Stephen Prentiss purchased a farm in the part of town known as West Hill.... and he became the proprietor of a saw grist mill.... pg 464. It is not presently known whether Stephen was from Deleware and brought his family to Steuben where his daughter met her husband.
