3. William Prentice, b. Oct 1866, England (per 1900 Chicago census). . We do not know when he emigrated to American, but he probably emigrated with his sister, Charlotte, at some date prior to 1875. William first appears in the 1880 Chicago, Cook Co., IL census living in the home of Harry Cheatle and Charlott/Charlotte Cheatle, both born in England. William is there called a brother-in-law, indicating that he would be Charlotte's brother, and working in a meat market, probably Cheatle's. William's father, David, appears in the 1900 census in Chicago, Ward 11, living in William's home. Also there were William's wife and son.

He m. Emma, b. Feb 1869, WI. Son:

1. Elmer Prentice, b. Dec 1894, age 5, IL. He may, or may not, be the Elmer A. Prentice shown in the 1930 Chicago, IL census as b. c. 1892, IL, with his wife, Ella I., b. c. 1893, IL, and daughter:
   1. Dorothy Prentice, b. c. 1924, IL.

4. Edward Valentina Prentice, b. 22 Dec. 1886, Chicago, IL. Although there is a variation in the middle initial (V instead of W) and birth year (1886 instead of 1888), there could be census transcription errors, it seems probable that he is the same person as Edward W. Prentice was b. c. 1888 in Illinois. He appears in the 1920 and 1930 census in Portland, Multnomah Co., Oregon, with his wifeand family.

Prentice, Charles E., age 94, March 14, 1917 Jan. 18, 2012 Charles Prentice, survived by his children Judy, Ken, Becky and Connie, passed away on Jan. 18, 2012. Charlie is also survived by his sister, Mary Catherine Scott; and brothers, Bob and Dick. Charlie loved his late wife, Nadine, home and farm; an inventor, he was always working in the tool shop. He is loved and will be missed by all who knew him. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to Hospice of Washington County.

Stanley M. Prentice

Stanley M. Prentice died Jan. 8, 2007, at age 77. Mr. Prentice was born Aug. 12, 1929, in Portland and later moved to Aloha. He served in the Navy in the Korean War. He then worked for Pacific Northwest Bell.

Survivors include his daughter, Marie Parmelee; sons, Alexander Prentice, Steven Prentice and Aaron Michaels; and six grandchildren. Remembrances to Northwest Cancer Clinic. Arrangements by Heritage.

Stanley was likely married, but the name of his wife is not mentioned in the obituary and may have predeceased him. It is unclear whether she might be the Caryl S. Prentice shown in the SSDI as b. 16 Jan 1928, obtained her SS# in IL, and d. 11 Jun 2004 in Portland, Washington Co., OR. Children per obituary:

1. Marie Prentice. She m. Mr. Parmelee.
2. Alexander Prentice.
3. Steven Prentice.
4. Aaron Michaels (stepson?)

We have not yet determined the identity of his parents, but he just might be a brother to Mark Prentice of Great Weldon , b. c. 1822 in Great Weldon and discussed in our Summer 2005 issue.

There is a chance that David's parents, and perhaps Mark's parents, are John Prentice, b. c. 1797, Weldon, and Hannah, also b. c. 1797, Weldon, shown in the 1851 census in Little Weldon. They were then 54 years of age and the only shown at home was their son, John Prentice, b. c. 1836 and 15 years of age.

It appeared, initially, that David Prentice might be the David Prentice, b. c. 1827-8 in Flowton, Suffolk, England, a Coal Porter, who appears in the 1841 census. He later appears in the 1881 census living on George Street in Hadleigh, Suffolk, England, with his wife, Mary A., b. c. 1829, Westminster, Middlesex, and children:

1. John Prentice, b. c. 1866, Hadleigh, Suffolk.
2. Elizabeth Prentice, b. c. 1870, Hadleigh, Suffolk.
3. Edith Prentice, b. c. 1870, Hadleigh, Suffolk.

However, in our article about John Prentice of Needham, Suffolk, England, that David is #11 and has a different wife and his children shown there are inconsistent with those of the David Prentice in this article (Charlotte, William and Mary).
