1. Anthony Prentice was b. c. 1811 in Essex Co., England. He appears in the 1841 census in Great leighs, Essex, as a "Cattle Drover" with his wife.
He m. Elizabeth. She was b. c. 1816, Essex.
They do not appear in the 1851 and later census records.
Anthony may, or may not, be related to Joseph Prentice, b. c. 1803, Heybridge, Esses (per 1851 census) who appears in the IGI as b. c. 1803, called "of Great Leighs, Essex," and who m. Sarah Searle on 31 Jul 1828 in Great Leighs. She was b. c. 1811, Goldhanger, Esses (per 1851 census. They appear in the 1851 Heybridge census where he is a Farm Labourer.
No children are shown for Joseph and Sarah in the 1851 census, but they do have a "Lodger," Mary Ann Miller, age 12 and b. c. 1839.
Joseph does not appear in the 1861 or 1871 census, but does appear as a widower and "Lodger" in the 1881 censdus in Heybridge in the home of Joseph Crow where both Joseph Prentice's and Joseph Crow's occupations are given as "Out Door Pauper." An "Outdoor Pauper" was apparently a poor person who did not live in the poor workhouse but received money from the parish to support himself.
