In reviewing various records, we found the following Prentices living in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, England:

1. John Prentice, b. c. 1750-60, m. Christian. Children:

  1. Sarah Ann Prentice, chr. 20 May 1781, St. Nicholas, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.

2. John Prentice, b. c. 1750-65, m. Alice. Children:

  1. Charlotte Prentice, chr. 18 Jul 1785, St. Nicholas, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.

3. William Prentice, probably b. c. 1785-1800. The following children have a father named William, and for purposes of this article they are assumed to be his children although further investigation is needed for confirmation:

  1. William Prentice, b. c. 1810-25, m. Elizabeth Tripp on 8 Jun 1846, St. Nicholas, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. She was b. c. 1827, Gorleston, the dau. of Thomas and Charlotte Tripp. Although further investigation is needed for confirmation, he may be the William Prentis who appears in the 1851 census in Gorleston, Suffolk as b. c. 1820, Yarmouth, with his wife, Elizabeth, b. c. 1827, Gorleston, and son:
    1. Daniel Prentis, b. c. 1849, Gorleston, Suffolk.

    Elizabeth appears in the 1861 Gorleston census as a Milliner, without her husband, living with her parents, Thomas and Charlotte Tripp, and with her children:

    1. William Prentice, b. c. 1851, Gorleston. Not home in 1871.
    2. Samuel Prentice, b. c. 1853, Gorleston. At home in 1871. Living with widowed Grandmother, Charlotte Tripp and her son in the 1881 census. Samuel appears in the 1901 Gorleston census, unmarried, with a boarder in his home,Robert John Day.

    Elizabeth appears in the 1871 Gorleston census living with her widowed mother, Charlotte Tripp, and son, Samuel. Elizabeth does not appear in the 1881 census and might be deceased.

  2. Ann Eliza Prentice, b. c. 1820-33, m. Robert Palmer Newson on 4 Dec 1850, St. Nicholas, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.

4. William Prentice, probably b. c. 1830-50. He might be William, #3i, above. The following children have a father named William, and for purposes of this article they are assumed to be his children although further investigation is needed for confirmation.

William m. Sarah, b. c. 1844, Yarmouth. Sarah appears in the 1881 census living at 62 Blackfriars Road, Great Yarmouth, without her husband, but with the following children:

  1. Eunice Prentice, b. c. 1865, Yarmouth, Norfolk. She m. John Alfred Preston on 22 May 1886, St. Nicholas, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. He was the son of Alfred Preston.
  2. Emma Prentice, b. c. 1871, Yarmouth, Norfolk. m. Robert Joseph Harvey, on 23 Jul 1898, St. Nicholas, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk. Robert was b. c. 1862, son of Robert Harvey.
  3. Ellen Prentice, b. c. 1873, Yarmouth.
  4. Edith Prentice, b. c. 1874, Yarmouth.
  5. Eliza Prentice, b. c. 1778, Yarmouth.
  6. Eva Prentice, b. c. 1779, Yarmouth.
  7. Ethel Prentice, b. c. 1880, Yarmouth.

5. Samuel Prentice, previously married, m. Susanna Dingle, previously married, on 4 Jun 1799, St. Nicholas, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.
