William Prentus of Rose, Shelby Co., Illinois

William Prentus of Rose, Shelby Co., Illinois
By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor
Winter 2004 and Revised 6 Oct 2004

1. William Prentus was b. c. 1831 in OH. He appears as a Farmer in the 1860 census in Rose, Shelby Co., IL with his wife, Sarah W., b. c. 1839, OH, and daughter:

  1. Mary E. Prentus, b. c. 1859, IL.

Who are William Prentus' Parents?

It seems likely that "Prentus" is a spelling variation of Prentice, Prentis or Prentiss.

We thought he might be the same William who appears in the 1850 census in Lyme, Huron Co., OH, son of Jonathan Prentis (see edb 155) but for him we show a different wife and daughter.

No Prentice (or spelling variation) appears in the 1850 census in Shelby Co., IL. nor does he appear in the 1870 or 1880 census.
