Update of 7 Jul 2006: Although the middle initial is different, he is almost certainly the same person as Percy R. Prentice, shown in the 1910 census in Thompson, Susquehanna Co., PA, as b. c. 1907, son of Lewis E. Prentice (b. c. 1858, PA) and his wife, Pearl O., b. c. 1886, PA).Prentice, both born in PA.

Lewis is the son of Cyrus Prentice, b. c. 1830, MA, and his wife, Lydia, b. c. 1834, NY. Cyrus is a descendant of Thomas Prentice.



1. Percy L. Prentice was b. 15 Aug 1907 in PA as were both his parents, obtained his SS# in PA and d. Dec 1976 in Genesee, Potter Co., PA (per SSDI and 1930 census). He first appears in the 1930 census in Susquehanna Depot, Susquehanna Co., PA, unmarried and a road construction laborer. (per 1930 census).

He m. Mildred Spangenberg, b. c. 1915 in Flushing, NY. Her obituary reads as follows:

    Mildred Prentice, 89, Shinglehouse, Potter County, died Nov. 4 in the long term care unit of Charles Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, Potter County, following a lengthy illness. Her husband, Percy L. Prentice, died in 1976.

    Born in Flushing, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late John and Emily (Cleator) Spangenberg. She was a member of the United Methodist church in Genesee, Potter County, where she was a former Sunday school teacher. She assisted with the 4-H programs in Potter County. Prentice was a former volunteer worker at the Oswayo Valley Senior Citizen Center, Shinglehouse.

    Surviving are four sons: Clarence L., Kimbolton, Ohio; Charles E., Shinglehouse; Frederick E., Port Clinton, Schuylkill County; and David L., Genesee.

    Other survivors include six daughters: Beverly J. (Prentice) Green, Bradford, McKean County; Shirley A. (Prentice) Gardner, Kimbolton; Dawn M. (Prentice) Bubeck, Cressona, Schuylkill County; Rose Mary (Prentice) Sterner, Blain, Perry County; Diane P. (Prentice) Kauffman, Centerport; and Bonnie Lou Prentice, Ashland.

    Also surviving are a brother, Phillip G. Spangenberg, Orlando, Fla.; and a sister, Edna (Spangenberg) Lake, Susquehanna. There are also 26 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

    Services were Nov. 7 in the Virgil L. Howard Funeral Home, Shinglehouse. Burial was in Genesee Cemetery.

  6. Shirley A. (Prentice) Gardner, Kimbolton.
  7. Dawn M. (Prentice) Bubeck, Cressona, Schuylkill County.
  8. Rose Mary (Prentice) Sterner, Blain, Perry County.
  9. Diane P. (Prentice) Kauffman, Centerport.
  10. Bonnie Lou Prentice, Ashland.
