Who are John Prentiss' Parents?

In checking the 1850 census, we found only a single John Prentiss who may, or may not, be the same person. He was b. c. 1830 in NY. In 1850 he was then living in Troy Ward 7, Rensselaer Co., NY. He was a Teacher, living in the home of George Sims.

We also note that the IGI shows that a John Prentice (note different surname spelling) who was b. 1803 in Brooklyn, Kings Co., NY, m. Sarah Nichols Davis c. 1830 in Brooklyn. Given that marriage location, they might be John's parents. Their son, John Prentice, appears to be a different person.
