1. John A. Prentice was b. c. 1847 in NY. He appears in the 1880 census in Sardinia, Erie Co., NY, with his wife. Not in the 1900 census. 1930 living with his son, Gordon, in Hamburg, Erie Co., NY.
He m. Nancy, b. c. 1846, NY. Son per 1880 census:
- Corden Prentice, b. c. 1870, NY. At home in the 1880 census. Not in the 1900-1920 census. 1925 in NY St. Census in Concord, Erie Co., NY. 1930-40 census in Hamburg, Erie Co., NY, with his wife, Lugorda/La Garda, b. c. 1891, NY.
Although John A. Prentice's middle initial is different, it seems likely that he is the son of Nelson Prentice and Mary Rice who appears in the 1860 census living at home under the name John L. Prentice. The main reasons for thinking that John is their son are (1) that Nelson and his wife also appear in the 1880 census in Sardinia, Erie Co., NY, (2) they both show a birth year of c. 1847, and (3) both Johns were b. in the State of NY.
