Update of 12 Nov 2003: Jeremiah Prentice is the son of James Prentice. They appear in our Winter 1999 article about James Prentice of Paglesham .
Original Article: In reviewing the 1861 Maldon, St. Peters, census, we found the following entry:
1. Jeremiah Prentice was b. c. 1821 in Rochford, Essex, England. In 1861 he was a widower and a Wheelwright. Jeremiah does not appear in the 1881 census. The 1861 census shows him with 3 children:
- Walter Prentice, b. c. 1846, Maldon, Essex. He appears in the 1881 census, married, but no wife or children are named. He was then living at 63 Colgrove Rd., West Ham, Essex, England. His occupation was given as "Turner (Eng)"
- Catherine Prentice, b. c. 1851, Maldon, Essex.
- Joseph Prentice, b.c. 1853, Maldon, Essex. He does not appear in the 1881 census.
- Henry Prentice (per John Henley, email, 11 Noc 2003).
- Elizabeth Prentice (per John Henley, email, 11 Noc 2003; she is his great-grandmother).
