The following material was published in the Reno, NV Gazette-Journal (for Hugh Prentiss) and in the Argus in Fremont, CA (for his wife, Dorothy):

1. Hugh V. Prentiss was b. 14 Feb 1917 at an unknown location, obtained his SS# in CA, and d. 11 Aug 2002 in Carson City, NV per SSDI. He grew up in Escalon, CA, a few miles SE of Stockton, CA, lived in Fremont, CA, in the San Francisco Bay Area for many years, and died in Carson City, NV.

Hugh served in the US Navy from 1935 to 1955. He was awarded the Army Distinguished Unit Badge and the Bronze Medal for the defense of the Philippines, December 7, 1941 to March 3, 1942. While serving in the Aleutian Islands, in June of 1942, he took a short leave to come back to marry his wife, Dorothy in Gardnerville. He worked in electronics research, testing and prototype development from 1955 to 1989. He also served as a civilian technical advisor with the US Army in Vietnam during 1968 and 1969.

Hugh was survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Gail Nelson and her husband, John; son, Alan Prentiss and his wife, Carolyn; grandchildren, Christine Nelson, Laura Oellerich, Lisa Strawther, Tim Prentiss, Kari Nelson. Also three great grandchildren.

There will be no funeral services, private cremation will be followed by inurnment at Burwood Cemetery, Escalon, California. Walton Chapel of the Valley in charge of arrangements

Hugh m. Dorothy Brennan in Jun 1942 in Gardnerville. Dorothy was b. 29 Nov 1920, Escalon, CA and d. 10 Aug 2004. She was the dau. of William H. Brennan and Hedvig Peterson Brennan. Dorothy loved being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and "digging in her dirt" in her flower garden. But mostly she enjoyed spoiling her dog, Kutie.

Dorothy was also survived by her sister-in-law, Norah Brennan; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and her dog, Kutie.A family remembrance was held on August 11, 2004. Contributions can be made to Alzheimer's Association Nevada Chapter, P.O. Box 6362, Reno, NV 85512. Children of Hugh and Dorothy Prentiss:

  1. Gail Prentiss. She m. John Nelson. Children:
    1. Christine Nelson.
    2. Kari Nelson.
  2. Alan Prentiss. He m. Carolyn. Children:
    1. Tim Prentiss.

Other grandchildren named were Laura Oellerich and Lisa Strawther
