Greek Prentices

Greek Prentices?
By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor
Spring 2004 and Revised 29 2004

We tend to think that Prentices have their roots in England, Scotland or Ireland. Maybe so, but in the 1920 US census we found the following men having their roots in Greece:

Spiros Prentis, b. 1896, Greece. He emigrated to the US from Greece in 1915 and in 1920 was single and a lodger in a boarding house in Lynn, Essex Co., MA.

Gustave Prentis, b. 1869, Greece. He emigrated to the US from Greece and in 1920 lived in Winston-Salem, Forsyth Co., NC.North Carolina

James Prentis, b. 1891, Greece. He emigrated from Greece and in 1920 was single and a laborer living in a boarding house in Toledo, Lucas Co., OH.

George Prentice, b. 1874 in Greece. He emigrated from Greece to the US in 1916 and in 1920 was single and was living in Bethlehem, Northampton Co., PA.
