Do you have the new PRENTICE eBook?
George Prentice of Canada, MI and Oakland, CA
By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor
Fall 2003 and Revised 17 Aug 2008

1. George Prentice was b. Nov 1860 in English Canada. He appears in the 1900 Chippewa Co., MI census with his wife.

He m. Elizabeth, b. Feb 1862, English Canada. They later appear in the 1920 Oakland, Alameda Co., CA census. They may have moved to California after 1910 as neither Thomas nor his parents appear in our copy of the 1910 CA census. Son:

  1. Thomas H. Prentice, b. Jul 1880, English Canada. . . . . . . [2]

2. Thomas H. Prentice, b. Jul 1880, English Canada, except that the 1920 and 1930 Oakland, Alameda Co., CA census shows Thomas as b. c. 1881 in MI. He appears in the 1930 Alameda census with his wife, Kay(?) E., b. c. 1902 and children:

  1. Ruth E. Prentice, b. c. 1921, CA.
  2. Thomas W. Prentice, b. c. 1922, CA.
  3. James E. Prentice, b. c. 1928, CA.

Who are George Prentice's Parents?

The only clue that we have for now is that George Prentice may be the same person as the George Prentice shown in the 1881 Reach, Ontario North, Canada census living with his widowed mother, Myriam(?) Prentice, b. c. 1824 in England, and George's brothers, all showing Scottish origins:

  1. Robert Prentice, b. c. 1855, Ontario, Farmer, Primitive Methodist.
  2. William Prentice, b. c. 1857, Ontario, Farmer, Primitive Methodist.

A check of the 1881 Canada census does not show any other Prentice family living in Reach and no other "Prentice" family in Ontario North.
