Summer 2003 and Revised 29 Apr 2003
We are helping James Prentice in tracing his Prentice roots in Scotland. Here is what we have so far:
1. George Prentice was b. c. 1916 and perhaps in Bellshill, Lanarkshire, Scotland and d. 1963 in Belshill. Bellshill lies perhaps 15 miles ESE of Glasgow and between Coatbridge and Motherwell.
George m. Eleanor Bimson. She was b. c. 1925 in Carlisle, Cumbria, England and d. 1988 in Carlisle. Their children were:
- Dorothy Prentice, b. 3 Sep 1948, Hamilton, which lies perhaps 5 miles SW of Bellshill.
- William Prentice, b. 14 Oct 1953, Hamilton. . . . . . . [2]
2. William Prentice, b. 14 Oct 1953, Hamilton. He m. Alison Yaxley on 22 Aug 1981. She was b. was b. 23 Aug 1956 in Norwich, Norfolk. They had:

- Daniel Prentice, b. 9 Nov 1985, Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England.
- Naomi Prentice, b. 30 Jan 1990, Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England.
- Rebekah Prentice, b. 17 Feb 1996, Lincoln, Lincolnshire, England.
We checked our database for the town of "Bellshill" with negative results. We then checked the surname of his wife, "Bimson," with negative results.
We also checked the IGI for the period 1914-1918 and, somewhat surprisingly, did not find any listing for a George Prentice born in Scotland during that period.
There are, however, quite a large number of Prentice families within a radius of a few of miles of Bellshill, so we should be able to find a link if we can get back an additional generation or two.
