Edward Prentis of Lambeth, Surrey England

Edward Prentis of Lambeth, Surrey England
Summer 2003 and Revised 4 Nov 2004

Update of 4 Nov 2004: By email of 4 Nov 2004, Pat Done advises that "Edward" should be "Eli" and that he is the son of Henry Prentis and Eliza McPherson and is connected to her line, about which we have an article at Joseph Prentice of S. Benfleet and Grays, Essex . She added:

"...Eli married Catherine (Kate) Kirton in 1868. Their children were Marion 1866, John 1872, William 1875, Alice 1877 and Jeremiah 1880 (not Eli as in the census) and Eli 1885. Kate died in 1888 and Eli married Sophia Ann Devitt in 1900.

Eli's full name is Eli McPherson Prentis and he was baptised on 29 March 1846 at Grays. He is the son of Henry Prentis and Eliza McPherson. When Henry died in 1848, Eliza married Henry's younger brother ...William. Eliza and William's daughter is my great grandmother, and so she was half sister to Eli.

I don't know where Eli was at the time of the 1851 census. He was living with Eliza and William in Grays for the 1861 census. In 1871 he was living at 1 Prince's Square, Lambeth with Kate and 5 year old Marion. 1881 we have discussed. 1891 he was living at 129 Broadwall, Christchurch, London and he was a widower. His children John 20, Alice 15, Jeremiah 11 and Eli 5 were living with him. 1901 he was living at 14 Warwick Street, St George the Martyr with Sophia 41, Jeremiah 21 and Eli 16."
