Who are Andrew Aitken Prentice's Parents?

It would appear that there is a good chance that he may be related to William Prentice of Kincardine, Scotland, about whom we have an article in our Spring 2000 article entitled William Prentice of Kincardine, Scotland .

Although additional investigation is need to verify that possible link, Andrew Aitken Prentice may be a son of Andrew Prentice was b. 1870 in Alloa and may be a grandson of Andrew Prentice who was b. 20 Mar 1842 in Stirling. Alloa lies only about 7 or so miles east of Stirling.

We also note that in the 1861 census an Andrew Prentice was b. c. 1843 in Stirling, Stirlingshire, and was living there in 1861 at the age of 18. He would have been in his 50s when Andrew Aitken Prentice was born.

On the other hand, Rosemarie Dempsey's email of 27 May 2003 relates that she has spoken with older relatives who spent more time with Andrew. They said that Andrew apparently did not know his father. The name "Prentice" is his mother's maiden name and his father's name is said to be recorded as "unknown". It might be that the 1843 Andrew had a daughter surnamed Prentice and that she named her son after her father (see above paragraph). Andrew's mother later married a Mr. MacArdam and had a son, David, who is Andrew's half-brother.
