Update of 17 Oct 2009: Robert Prentice is #1(f) in our Summer 1999 article entitled John Prentice of Dromore, Co. Down, Ireland and New York City . That article now replaces this article.
1. Robert Prentice was b. c. 1829-30 in Ireland. He was a sailor and first appears, unmarried, in the 1850 census in New York City. He may have died before 1900 as he does not appear in the 1900 NYC census with his family.
Robert m. Catharine, b. c. 1840 in Ireland. They appear in the 1880 New York City census and she in the 1900 NYC census. Children:
- Robert J. Prentice, b. c. 1860, NY. Not shown at home in the 1900 census. Not in 1920 census.
- Ida B. Prentice, b. c. 1871, NY. Not shown at home in the 1900 census.
- Mary E. "Minnie" Prentice, b. Apr 1874, NY. Living at home in the 1900 census.
- William M. Prentice, b. Jun 1877, NY. Living at home in the 1900 census. He may be the William M. Prentice shown in the 1920 Bronk, Bronx Co., NY census with his wife, Ida, b. c. 1883. No childen shown. Not in 1930 census.
- Katie F. Prentice, b. Dec 1878, NY. Living at home in the 1900 census.
- Lester M. Prentice, b. 13 Nov 1881, NY. . . . . . . . . [2]
Also shown in the 1880 household is Rebecca Clark, called an aunt.
2. Lester M. Prentice, b. 13 Nov 1881 and d. c. Aug 1966 in Yonkers, Westchester, NY (per SSDI). Living at home in the 1900 census. He Appears in the 1920 and 1930 Yonkers, Westchester Co., NY census with his wife, Islay(?), b. c. 1892, NY, and children:
- Robert Prentice, b. c. 1917, NY. At home in 1930.
- Marshall Prentice, twin, 18 May 1919, NY and d. Aug 1976, Los Angeles, CA (per SSDI)..
- William M. Prentice, twin, b. 18 May 1919, NY and d. 1 Apr 1996, East Hampton, Middlesex, CT (per SSDI)
- Norman Prentice, b. 25 Feb 1925 and d. 4 Jun 2000, Austin, Travis Co., TX (per 1930 census and SSDI).
