1. Joseph A. Prentiss was b. Sep 1859, MO (per 1900 and 1920 census) or Mississippi (per 1910 census).
He appears in the 1900 San Francisco, 1910 and 1920 Oakland, Alameda Co. CA census with his wife and family.
He m. Alice Kirby, b. c. 1868 in NV. Children:
- Hazel Prentiss, b. 20 Aug 1888 and d. 5 Aug 1953 in San Mateo Co., CA. She m. Mr. Thomas.
- Clara Prentiss, b. 24 Mar 1890-1 in CA and d. 12 Jul 1953, Solano Co., CA.
She m. Ray M. Lewis, b. c. 1888 in IA. They are living with her parents
in 1920. They have at least one child:
- Alicia E. Lewis, b. c. 1918, CA. Not in Cal. Death Records.
- Charles/Charlie Prentiss, b. Feb 1893, CA. At home in 1900. Not home in 1910. Not in SSDI or Cal. Death Records.
The only clue we have so far is the 1900 census which says his father was b. in NY and mother in TN.
