We are helping Wayne Prentice 1. George William Prentice is mentioned in "Digger - South Australian Deaths Registrations 1842 to 1915" as b. c. 1831-32, (perhaps England see below) and d. at the age of 71 on 6 Jul 1903 at Parkside.
He might be the same person referenced in "Digger - South Australian Births 1842-1906," and identified as George William Prentice and his wife, Ellen Eliza Christina Cutting, who were living in Burnside, Australia when 2 or more of his children were born. Known children:
2. George Prentice, b. 7 May 1878, Burnside or Uraidla, Australia, and d. 9 Oct 1959, age 81.
He m. Minnie Gertrude Hart, of German ancestry, as her 2nd husband.. She was b. 1882, Uraidla, and d. 8 Jan 1965, age 83 (per South Australian Birth Records and Wayne Prentice, email, 17 Aug 2006 and 2 Sep 2006). They had 2 or more children, including (per Wayne Prentice, email, 2 Sep 2006):

The above George Prentice (#2) and George William Prentice (#3) might be the persons referred to in "The Civic Record of South Australia, 1921-23" published by The Associated Publishing Service (Aust), 1924 in material relating to the District Council of East Torrens. The material is as follows:
A well-known and highly respected resident of East Torrens, Mr. George Prentice has for the past 10 years served the
District Council as Councillor, representing Greenhill Ward. He is Secretary and Treasurer of Uraidla branch of the
M.U.IO.F. Lodge, and has twice been through the chairs of the local Druids' Lodge. He is Secretary of the Uraidla and
Summerton H. & F. Society, Hon. Secretary of the Agricultural Bureau, and of the Soldiers' Memorial Park Committee.
The sporting section of the district also shares Mr Prentice's interest: he is Vice-President of the football club and a
member of the Uraidla Cricket Club."
East Torrens, Burnside and Parkside are all near Adelaide, South Australia, Australia.
Hypothesizing that George was b. in England c. 1831-2, we checked the 1841 England census to identify the men of that name appearing in the 1841 census. We found the following men born in that general period but have established that none of them are the one we are looking for:
It appears either that George was missed in the 1841 England census, or that he was born other than in England.
If you have any information about the folks mentioned in this article, please contact us at
