Fall 2001 and Revised 21 Jul 2001
In reviewing the IGI, and with the appreciated aid of Ian Prentice, we found the following information about the Prentices in Wattisham, Suffolk, England which lies about 5 miles south of Stowmarket about 4-5 miles WSW of Needham Market, and perhaps 9-10 miles NW of Ipswich:
1. Edward Prentice was likely b. c. 1650-64 at an unknown location, but probably within a radius of 20 miles of Wattisham. A search of the IGI did not turn up any likely candidates.
Edward m. Elizabeth whose surname is not yet known. They had 3 or more children, including:
- John Prentice, chr. 19 Jan 1684, Wattisham. . . . . . . . [2]
- Elizabeth Prentice, chr. May 1686, Wattisham.
- Mary Prentice, chr. May 1686, Wattisham.
2. John Prentice, chr. 19 Jan 1684, Wattisham. He m. Sarah Jordan in 1712 at Ringshall. They had children:
- Mary Prentice, bap. 1713, Ringshall.
- Sarah Prentice, bap. 1713, Ringshall and d. 1743.
- Frances Prentice, bap. 1720, Ringshall. She m. John Franks in 1746.
Ian Prentice indicates that since there were relatively few Edward Prentices in East Anglia at the time, this Edward may be related to the Prentices of Earls Colne in our Fall 1999 issue, possibly descendants of the Edward who was born in Earls Colne in 1632. Wattisham lies about 20 miles NE of Earls Colne
