Daniel Prentice was b. c. 1833 in MA. A Plasterer by trade, he was a man who didn't let grass grow under his feet; he was always seeking something better. He first census appearance is in the 1870 St. Louis, St. Louis Co., MO census with his wife, Maud, b. c. 1841, PA, and their children, all born in different states:
- George Prentice, b. c. 1864, PA.
- Dennison Prentice, b. c. 1866, OH.
- Edgar Prentice, b. c. 1868, MO.
