Thomas Prentice of St. Pauls Waldon, England
By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor
Spring 1999 and Revised 25 Nov 2005
We have received from Ian Prentice, England, an interesting PRENTICE family tree for Thomas Prentice of St. Pauls Waldon which lies a few miles north of London and about 20 miles west of Bishop's Stortford from which a great many families immigrated to New England in the 1600s. The tree has many disappearing branches, so there is a good possibility of it tying up with someone's line somewhere in the world.
It's interesting in the forename FREMOND or Freeman (# A(i), below) implies that, despite the fact that the first Thomas must have been reasonably well to do, the family had not long worked its way out of being bondmen or serfs to the local Lord of the Manor.
Thomas Prentice's descendants are shown as follows:
A. Thomas Prentice, b. c. 1490-1510, is the earliest known ancestor and is
buried in St. Pauls Walden, near Hitchin, Herfordshire in 1545 leaving a will.
He was married to Alice. Their children were:
i. Fremond Prentice, b. c. 1520-30, Yeoman of St. Pauls Walden. (1)

iv. A daughter Prentice who married John Skarting.

though not named in his father's will.re> (2)
