By Linus Joseph Dewald Jr., Editor
    Summer 2000 and Revised: 25 Jan 2006

    1. Shirley E. (C.?) Prentice, b. c. 1891 in NY. He appears in WWI draft registration cards as Shirley Eugene Prentice, b. 18 Jun 1890, NY. He appears in the 1920 Oneonta, Otsego Co., NY census with his wife, Bessie M., b. c. 1891 in NY, and their children:

    1. Winifred Prentice, b. c. 1912, NY.
    2. Genevieve Prentice, b. c. 1915, NY.
    3. Ivan Prentice, b. c. 1916, NY.
    4. Donald Prentice, b. c. 1919, NY. He may be the Donald Prentice, about whom information is sought by Sherry Torres for her step-mother about her father; Her Donald Prentice was b. 8 Apr 1919 and enlisted in the Navy about 1940-1941 at Oneonta.

According to Social Security records, he died in Washington, NY in 1951.

Donald is said to have a brother, Fred Prentice.

    Who are Shirley Prentice's Parents?

Although only a guess for now, Shirley Prentice might be a son of Fred R. Prentice, a descendant of Valentine Prentice, b. c. 1874 in PA. Fred appears in the 1920 Oneonta census with his wife, Freida B., b. c. 1879 in Alsace Lorraine, and children:

    1. Hazel M. Prentice, b. c. 1900, PA who was the wife of a Mr. Knifer(?).
    2. Helen C. Prentice, b. c. 1902, PA.
    3. Agnes M. Prentice, b. c. 1907, PA.

Fred would have been about 17 when Shirley was b. about 1791. Further, absence of children born between 1907 and 1920 suggests that additional children were born between 1890 and 1900. On the other hand, unless Frieda was a 2nd wife, her 1879 birth date seems to maker her too young to be Donald's mother.

Assuming Shirley is Fred's son, it would not be surprising for Shirley to have named a son, perhaps born after 1920, after Shirley's father.
