Gutta Percha ( United States Pharmacopoeia, and British Pharmaceutical Codex 1949) Alternative names Gutt.Perch; Gummi Plasticum .... gutta means "drop" guttae plural = "drops"

The coagulated, dried, purified latex of trees of the genera Palaquium gutta ( Sapotaceae) It occurs in lumps or blocks with a slight characteristic odour and is of a brown or greyish-brown or greyish-white colour externally and reddish-yellow or reddish-grey internally with a laminated or fibrous appearance; it is flexible, but only slightly elastic.
