1. Erastus G. Prentice was born c. 1836 in NY, with both parents b. in NY (per 1880 census). He appears in the 1870 Hampshire, Kane Co., IL census with Harriet, b. c. 1812, NY, who may be his mother. Relationships are not shown in the 1870 census. She does not appear as Harriet Prentice, b. c. 1812, in the 1850, 1850 or 1880 census.
Erastus m. Josephine F. Smith on 18 Jun 1872 in Kane Co., IL. She was b. c. 1840, NY, with both parents b. in NY. They appear in the 1880 Hampshire, Kane, IL census as "E. G and J. F. Prentines" with their family. Not in 1900 census. Children:
- Frances G. Prentice, b. c. 1873, IL.
- Elizabeth/Lizzie A. Prentice, b. c. 1874, NY.
- George D. Prentice, b. c. 1878, NY. Not in 1920 IL census.
Also shown in the 1880 census household is B. F. Smith, Josephine's father.
The name "Erastus" is unusual and may appear in earlier generations of Erastus' line. He might be related to one of the following families:
- An Erastus Prentice (286/88vi), son of Stephen Prentice, was b. 20 Aug 1825 in Franklin, New London, CT and later lived in Kingston, Ulster, NY with his wife, Eliza M. Rogers. He may be a cousin.
- The CT IGI shows an Erastus Prentice m. Betsey Rise, or Rix, on 8 Aug 1805 at Preston, New Londin, CT.
- An Erastus Prentice and his wife, Elizabeth, perhaps the CT couple, above, lived in Pittsfield, MA at the time of the death of their daughter, Elizabeth, on 15 Jan 1848. Depending on his age, he may be Erastus' father or a cousin.
