Update of 25 Dec 2002: Alfred W. Prentice is shown by the 1880 Worcester, MA census to be the son of Benjamin W. Prentice of Worcester, MA and a descendant of Thomas Prentice of Providence, RI.

We are helping Grace MacDonald in her efforts to trace the ancestry of her Alfred W. Prentice, b. Dec 1862 in MA. He appears in the 1900 Worcester, Worcester Co., MA census with his wife, Ella J., b. Aug 1864, MA. Alfred and his sons owned owned the Prentice Brothers Machine Company which later became Reed & Prentice. The business was lost in the depression of the 1930s. Childen:
- William H. Prentice, b. Jun 1883, MA.
- Edith B. (Doyle) Prentice, b. Feb 1886, MA.
- George A. Prentice, b. Apr 1893, MA.
- Norman F. Prentice, b. Oct 1895, MA.
- Grace Prentice, b. Worcester, MA. She m. Mr. MacDougal and lives in Lancaster, PA.
- Ruth E. Prentice, b. Feb 1898, MA.
- (twins) Prentice. Died at birth.
Also living with the family was Eliza J. Doyle, called mother-in-law, b. Jun 1837, Ireland.
